RSN holds violence against women and asylum webinar
March 25, 2021

On March 25, 2021, RSN organized a live-translated English-Turkish seminar for Turkish lawyers and refugee rights advocates as part of a virtual lawyer training series, part of our work together with Refugee Rights Turkey.

Presented by Blaine Bookey, an expert in gender-based asylum law and Legal Director at the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, the seminar focused on persecution on account of gender, international instruments to support violence against women, and international protection applications based on gender-based asylum claims.

We were overwhelmed by the high level of participation and the positive feedback we received from some of the nearly 85 attendees. The event was particularly important given that it coincided with Turkey’s disappointing announcement to pull out of the Istanbul Convention.
