RSN Co-Authors Article in Prestigious Asia-Pacific Journal on Human Rights and the Law
RSN and the Open Society Justice Initiative co-authored a scholarly article in the Asia-Pacific Journal on Human Rights and the Law (APJHRL) that examined policies and practices related to refugees, migrants, and stateless persons in six major host countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
In examining these precedents, the article, “The Peril and Potential of Ambiguity: How National Laws and Policies Can Strengthen and Protect the Rights of Rohingya Refugees,” found that these states have extended rights to non-citizens, despite not being party to the 1951 Refugee Convention, and demonstrated the possibility of expanding protection outside of the international refugee law framework. It intended to provide inspiration for the progressive realization of rights for displaced Rohingya communities across the region, as well as for other non-citizen communities facing similar challenges.
